I am Pusparani from Varuthoolai, Chulipuram. My family consists of seven members. My husband is a laborer we live off his daily earnings. Our two children are married ,three children are studying Victoria college Chulipuram. One day in year 2015 I was taking my sister to Jaffna Teaching Hospital for treatment. On my way to the hospital I met a lady who was working for KKM. While I was chatting to her she observed some discolored patches on my arms and legs. On her advice I visited a skin clinic and I was seen by the skin specialist who did the biopsy and conformed that I am affected by Leprosy. I was treated with the course of MDT I took it regularly and got completely cured. Our family was screened and one of my son also was diagnosed was leprosy. This devastated the whole family. Fortunately KKM was very supportive they gave us guidance and support. They made us to understand that it is a treatable illness and by treating us early and fully we can stop this illness spreading. KKM provided us with nutritive food supplement. They brought awareness not only in to our family but also into our village. They looked after our family with love and care. We had to go very far off place to get water, KKM through their livelihood project dug a well in our own compound. Also they gave us young coconut plants and vegetable seeds. The vegetables plants are giving us produce to cook day to day and also we sell excess produce and this brings us extra income. Our future income will increase and this will help to improve the welfare of are family. We are very thank full and great full to KKM- Staff , also TLMEW mission.
I am Amala from Kaddupulam , Chulipuram. Our family survives from the day to day income my husband brings from fishing. One day in year 2015 a member of the KKM Staff spotted patches on my arms and directed me to Jaffna teaching Hospital. There I was diagnosed to be affected by Leprosy. I was lucky to be diagnosed in the early stages. I had to take medicine only for six month now I’m completely cured. At the start I was very depressed and sad, fortunately KKM staff not only made me aware about the illness also brought awareness to my husband, My family and also to the people in my village. During the period of treatment KKM staff supply me with nutritious supplementary food and also made sure that I followed the treatment regularly . We did not have water facilities in our land – KKM through their livelihood project, dug a well in our land. They also provided us with young coconut plants and other seedlings of vegetable plants. We are cultivating our land and our income is improving daily. Now that I am completely cured I am very happy and I have become a member of Leprosy association. I am determined to help the people and their families who are affected by Leprosy . I will work with the people to bring awareness and also help to detect the illness early so that can be treated early. By early detection and early treatment we can eradicate Leprosy not only in Northern Province also in Sri Lanka too. I am very great full and thank full to all the people who help me to be what I am now.
I am Tharany live in Kaddupualm with my husband , my father- in- law and my young son. My husband and I work as labors for fisherman. One day when I was having a bath at the well, KKM –staff noticed the discolored patch on my shoulder . she came over to me advise me to go and get it examined by Jaffna skin clinic doctor I followed the instruction and went to the clinic. When they examined they confirmed that I am affected by leprosy. It was not a great shock to me as my father has had Leprosy and was treated and he was completely cured. KKM has been educating us. Through their effort of making us aware of this illness, our family, our Neighbors and the community is aware that Leprosy can be completely cured if its diagnosed early and treated fully. My friends and relatives never treated me differently. We went through a lot of trouble to get water for our day to day use. Need for our water was full filled by KKM digging a well in our compound . They also provided us with the water pump. They provided us with young coconut plants and vegetable seedlings . From the Hope Farm KKM has provided us with two piglets . I have joined the Leprosy association, my aim and dream is to have a society free of Leprosy. I am thankful to all the people who are working hard to achieve this Goal. I am Yogarasa . Head of a family of four members. I work as a health assistant in the health department. I realized loss of sensation on a discolored patch on my arm. I was diagnosed to be affected by Leprosy at the Teaching hospital. I realized through KKM that Leprosy can be fully cured by taking MDT. Because of the awareness given to me by KKM. I did not lose hope nor did I feel depressed. Awareness program with a help of drama and pamphlets conducted by KKM helped my friends, relations and neighbors to accept me without showing any indifference. Through the livelihood project KKM help me with well and a water a pump. Now I am cultivating in my land coconut palms, I am growing fruits and vegetables plants. I am thank full to TLMEW and KKM.
I am Vairamuthu head of family of six. I work as a laborer to run my family. I was diagnosed to have Leprosy. I was very depressed.With a support of KKM. My family looked after me without letting me down . My family and I had to go very far to fetch water. KKM provided us with Tube well and water pump. Now we are cultivating coconut palms we have home garden. Now we have better income. Our sincere thanks go to KKM and TLMEW.
I am Tharshika , from Kattupulam Chullipuram. In 2013 I was diagnosed to be affected by Leprosy at a young stage. At this stage Kaveri kala manram (KKM) gave me support and strength to continue my education. Now I have sat for G.C.E ordinary level and waiting for results. In addition, KKM made it possible by providing a ‘Tube well’ within my land. We able to use the water from this well to plant coconut trees and also in-between the coconut trees plant lots of vegetables, which bring us enough money to survive. We are getting a lot of more income through selling fruits and vegetables. Now we are being encouraged to rare country chicken by being provided with a cage for the chicks. I am hoping this plantation will bring enough money for the future studies . I am very grateful & thankful to KKM & the Leprosy Mission (TLMEW) for the services they have provided.
I am Kanapathy Nanthakumar living Thikarai, Chulipuram. I am a laborer, with my day to day income I support my family of four. In Year 2014 I was diagnosed to be affected by Leprosy. When I realized I had Leprosy I was devastated. At the time I got in touch in KKM and they were very supportive helped me to look after my wounds. KKM made my family aware about leprosy diagnosis treatment, and how it can be fully cured. My family is happy. My village is also aware of leprosy and they know to get to the hospital and get diagnosed and treated early. KKM reconstructed my old well and the fitted with water pump. We are happy to use this water to keep our house and toilets clean. In the future water from this well will help to water our coconut plants and this will improve our income. I am thankful to KKM for this help. I am a member of the leprosy association through which I hope to make Sri Lanka free of Leprosy. I sincerely thank all the Staff of KKM, and TLMEW.
I am Mary Jasintha from Veram, Moolai. We are six in the family. My husband is a Mason, my children go to school. Last year I was attending a private doctor teaching hospital Jaffna, where they diagnosed and treated me for Leprosy. At the skin clinic I met a staff from KKM. When I was getting the treatment I got the supplementary nutrition’s from the KKM. They gave me mental support us well. KKM brought awareness to family and the village through drama and pamphlets. SPHI , PHI and KKM staff , did house to house screening in my village. For our water needs we were going to faraway places. KKM made it possible to use our uncompleted well. We were given coconuts plants and vegetable seedlings for our home garden. This has helped us to improve our day to day living. Our sincere thanks to KKM and TLMEW.
I am S.Jovap from Kaddupulam,Chulipuram. In 2015 I was diagnosed to be affected by Leprosy at a young stage. I was lucky to be diagnosed in the early stages. I had to take medicine only for six month now I’m completely cured. TLMEW& KKM gave me support and strength through CTY to continue my education and now I have studding Grade 6 . Our family is now happily settled in Kattupulam after years of moving from place to place, owing to the war. When we first moved into our own land we did not have any water. We had to go far to collect water for drinking and home use. Thanks to KKM & TLMEW we were gifted with a Tube well & motor water pump. This is a blessing. It gives us easy access to water. We were also gifted with coconut plants. We now in addition have vegetables plants growing which is a good source of income. Now we are being encouraged to rare country birds by providing case to chicks this has improved our nutrition. Now I continue my studies well. I am very grateful & thankful to KKM & TLMEW for their services they have provided.
I am Theiveniram Jenista, from Kadupulam Chulipuram, My life was complicated having had contacted Leprosy at a young age. I was diagnosed and treated a very early a completely cured. This was made possible by KKM coming in to my life. TLMEW& KKM gave me support and strength through CTY to continue my education and now I have sat For G.C.E ordinary level. KKM improved our living conditions by providing Tube well within my land. Now we have coconut plants and vegetables growing additionally which is a good source of income and we are encouraged to rear country birds. Which we are happily rearing thanks to KKM & TLMEW. I am hoping this plantation will bring enough money for the future studies. I am very grateful & thankful to KKM & TLMEW for their services they have provided.
